The Dirt Road Cookers, a Hondo, Texas pizza company, has broken the record for the world’s largest commercially available pizza. The catering team, headed by chef Kurt Oefinger, set up shop in front of the Guinness World Record museum in San Antonio last month to bake a 46.64 square foot, 100-pound pie, the world’s largest, according to Daily Mail.
The team of eight broke the previous record, with a pizza double the size of the previous record holder’s pizza. (The former record holder, Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria, had been making their 54 by 54 inch pizza since 2008, and their world record became official on September 30, 2010, Guiness World Records told The Daily Meal.)
The specially made oven used to cook the pie took one year to design and another year to build, chef Oefinger told Daily Mail. The team divided up the work, and they finished making the pie in under two hours. “I'm the team leader, one looks after the fire, two are on toppings, we have two girls who help us with water and things like that because it gets hot and two work on the base,” he said.
The Dirt Road Cookers have been serving 8 foot pizzas at parties, with various toppings and shapes (like a palm tree-shaped pizza). Their menu includes “adventurous” pizza toppings, such as nachos, frito pie, and chicken fried steak.
Chef Oefinger hopes that this new world record will attract more customers like Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria did, and it seems likely that they will attract their fair share of pizza-goers.

If you want to have the most delicious homework in the world, you may want to attend Manchester Metropolitan University in the U.K. In 2015, the university teamed up with Pizza Hut to offer for-credit apprenticeships that teach students the art of pizza-making and prepare them for a career in hospitality. According to some, it’s basically like getting a degree in pizza.
Texas Pizza Company Breaks Guinness World Record! - Recipes
Dave and Sarah were a pleasure to work with. Overall, the whole experience was very good, and I would recommend their services to anyone looking to build a brick oven. We had a large one built with some unusual features, and Dave was very patient working through it with me.
The Barefoot Baker
"Texas Oven Company built a beautiful Pizza Oven and Smoker for me. The quality of work was commercial grade and completely surpassed my expectations. Their business model is very unique and customer friendly. Modifications and design decisions took place throughout the process. An enthusiastic "can do" was always the response to my many requests. At the conclusion of the construction, the builder, Dave Eberhardt, threw a party for us, teaching us and guests how to cook using our new oven and smoker. The food was absolutely AMAZING!
I have had so many, many really bad experiences with contractors. Texas Oven Company is truly the exception. They ROCK!"
"I am so pleased with the fantatsic service and master craftmanship provided by Texas Oven Co. in developing the foundational centerpieces of my dream Outdoor Kitchen. As you will be able to see in the pictures provided I asked Sarah and Dave to quote, design and build a two structural components an Argentine Grill and custom hand crafted Pizza Oven. You will also see in the pictures that the work has just begun and the cosmetics are yet to come, but the structures are complete and ready for use. It was a true joy working with both Sarah and Dave. Sarah handles the paprerwork in a prompt, professional and organized manner, while Dave is the artist who takes much pride in his craft. Being someone who has been around construction, I have an eye for what true craftmanship is and I very much appreciated the effort and passion Dave put forth in this project. I can't wait for the "first-fire" party that Texas Oven Co will host to get us started on the right foot on this new cooking style adventure."
"Dave Eberhardt w/ Texas Oven Co. built our custom wood-fired pizza oven, large stand-alone outdoor fireplace, and stone fire pit for out backyard entertainment area. Dave had great ideas that enhanced the project and specific features that were awesome (drain/vent for fire pit). He was great to work with and the quality of the work was top notch.
And the pizza party to break in the oven was fabulous. He really "gets it" regarding both cooking with a wood-fired oven and entertaining outdoors. Can't say enough about getting someone who really knows all aspects of the process, and does quality work. We are extremely happy with the outcome. "
We really like the whole concept of cooking this way, including the vast variety of foods. Preparing food in a wood fired oven is very unique concept and works well with our fondness of grilling and cooking outdoors. Plus they look great! The heat up (curing) period was a lot of fun as we counted down the days to when we could actually cook. But the best experience by far was when we slid our first pizza into the oven and watched it cook to perfection in 90 seconds. My wife and I looked at each other and agreed that this was a very good investment! And the pizza was easily the best we’ve ever had!
Brandon & Whidney
I am definitely an amateur cook, but I have always enjoyed spending quality time on the weekends outdoors with my wife and kids grilling hamburgers on the gas grill, frying some fish, or smoking a brisket or pork shoulder late until the early morning on the Big Green Egg. But I wanted to venture out, so I started researching wood fired outdoor ovens that can cook a variety of foods. Definitely pizza, but also vegetables, turkeys, chicken wings, appetizers, etc. Pretty much anything you would throw in an indoor oven.
I am a ‘do-it-yourself’ kind of guy so I first looked into building my very own from scratch using bricks and mortar. I ruled this out fairly quickly as we wanted this to be the focal point of the backyard and I didn’t want it obvious that I hacked this oven together by myself. I also looked at oven kits, but personally didn’t find huge a difference in price once I added up the requirements of the base that we wanted. I decided if I was going to make the investment, and an investment for me was certainly what it was, I wanted to do it right and with the right company. This is why we chose Texas Oven Company after looking at several vendors.
During the research phase I was focused on the design, cost and end result. What I absolutely didn’t understand is the art that goes into the implementation. It is great experience. Not just watching Dave at TOC treat the trowel like a paintbrush creating a piece of art, but hearing his stories and even sharing a beer or two at the end of the day.
The second misunderstanding during the research phase was I focused on how really good was the food going to be out of one of these things. Is that cost really worth it? I knew, but definitely underestimated the experience part. Absolutely the food is great, but the lighting of the fire, waiting and watching the flames during heating and most of all the experience during the preparing and cooking. What other meal or event can you have with neighbors, family and friends where everyone can participate, challenge who’s pizza is the best or cooking something in the oven for the first time.
Yes, it is an investment. Absolutely, the food is really fantastic. But the experience is worth the investment. And no. We don’t just use it every once in a blue moon. We often plan during the week on what we can make and who we will invite over the weekend. I’ll do it again at our next house and can’t imagine partnering with someone other than the good people at Texas Oven Company.
The Garcia Family
I just want to thank you guys for constructing our new oven. The entire process was easy and trouble free. The oven turned out as beautiful as we wished and has really brought our family closer together. We spend lots more time cooking and enjoying our oven with friends and family than ever before.
Oven is performing wonderfully. We’ve fed fifty a couple of times. …We’ve been told that your handiwork is the best addition we have made to our place.
Immediately upon our initial visit, seeing the wonderful piece being created, we “signed up”! Dave and his crew assisted us in placing our oven appropriately on our property, as well as reviewing style, design, colors, rock choice, etc. From the start to the finish, these folks were professional, timely, friendly, and flexible as our oven was created right before our very eyes! Upon completion, there is even a “woodburning oven 101″ to enable you, the new owner, a successful launch of your new “toy”! Over the years, having dealt with many different contractors/vendors, we can safely say that our experience with Texas Oven Co is beyond reproach and the end product is sooo exciting – enabling a totally new cooking experience! In closing, don’t miss out on the pure enjoyment these ovens provide – just looking at it while sitting back sipping some wine as it “warms” is GREAT!!
But still, Best got into her car and drove past the white Avenger so she could check to see if the license plate matched the one in the Amber Alert.
When she realized they did in fact match, Best called the police and as the suspect and Nicolas returned to the car, she reported what street they pulled on to.
Best followed the car until it reached South Staples Street, where Corpus Christi police were waiting for the vehicle, according to the Corpus Christi Caller Times.
Though Best usually takes her smoke breaks behind Papa Murphy's, she decided to stand out front, which is where she spotted Galbraith's car
Best was able to identify Galbraith's car by matching the license plate to the Amber Alert information. She said she rarely looks at Amber Alerts but that she will pay more attention from now on
Nicolas had last been seen the night before at about 5pm in Alice Texas. An Amber Alert had been sent out on Thursday at about authorities looking for Nicolas and his mother's boyfriend, Channing Eloy Galbraith.
Corpus Christi police arrested Galbraith on a $100,000 kidnapping warrant obtained by Alice Police Department detectives.
Nicolas was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital. He didn't appear to be injured, but police took him to the facility as a precaution.
Best said she rarely looks at Amber Alerts but that she will pay more attention from now on.
'I usually don't even look at Amber Alerts, as bad as that sounds. I look at them, and I don't really pay attention,' she told KRIS. 'And I was like, he couldn't get from [Alice, the city where Nicolas was abducted, to Corpus Christi] in that little bit of time. Sure enough, it was him.'
Galbraith was taken to Corpus Christi city detention center and will be sent to Jim Wells County to face kidnapping charges.
Best followed the car until Corpus Christi police caught up with it on South Staples Street. Galbraith was arrested on a $100,000 kidnapping warrant obtained by Alice, Texas, police detectives
PokerStars to Hold World Record Tournament
On Sunday, December 28th, up to 35,000 players will flock to PokerStars, the Internet’s largest online poker room. Fittingly, the goal is to set the record for the world’s largest poker tournament. PokerStars is pulling out all of the stops for this event, which comes with a healthy $500,000 guaranteed prize pool and has just an $11 price tag.
As of Friday night, December 12th, there were 516 players entered. The tournament lobby states, “This is an official attempt at the Guinness world record for World’s Largest Poker Tournament! $500,000 is guaranteed!” Each blind level will run for 10 minutes, making play in the tournament similar to a turbo. Tables will be 10 handed and the official prizes will be announced after the registration period closes. The tournament is capped at 35,000 players, which means, at most, a whopping 3,500 tables would be employed. Players are permitted to sign up until two minutes before the tournament begins, which is at 15:30 ET on Sunday, December 28th.
PokerStars is currently in the process of gearing up for its annual Caribbean Adventure live poker tournament (PCA), which is held every January in The Bahamas. The event, which was previously a World Poker Tour stop, is now a regular destination for the European Poker Tour (EPT). Earlier this year, Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier, a card carrying member of Team PokerStars Pro, took down the PCA, pocketing $2 million in the process. A total of 1,136 players descended upon the Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island in Nassau in 2008, the site of the annual spectacle. The final table is typically held outdoors.
Satellites for the PCA are running constantly on PokerStars. They start as low as $7.50 or 500 Frequent Player Points (FPPs). The online poker room is doling out $14,000 prize packages, which include entry into the $10,000 Main Event plus hotel accommodations and expense money. After winning the tournament, Grospellier told PokerStars, “There were so many interviews and so many article requests, so I still hadn’t realized I had won. I’m happy I won, but I don’t quite realize how much it means.”
PokerStars is home to the largest weekly online poker tournament held, the Sunday Million. It takes place at 18:30 ET every Sunday and boasts a buy-in of $215. Thousands of poker players regularly take to the felts in this high-stakes $1.5 million guaranteed event, which is considered the premier Sunday major. Two hours prior to the start of the Sunday Million, the $750,000 Guaranteed Warm-Up kicks off. Like the Million, it comes with a $215 buy-in and ties with Full Tilt Poker’s $750K Guaranteed for the second largest online poker tournament held weekly.
The $500K World Record attempt has a Tournament ID of 126551369. Recent additions to the Guinness Book of World Records include the Largest Fruit Mosaic, which was 23,895 square feet and broke the standing record by 372,525 pieces of fruit. Jennifer Gilmour recently set the record for the most number of tattoos inked in 24 hours at 726. The previous record, by the way, was only 415. The record for longest line of pizzas was also just set in Austin Texas. Pizza pies spanned a length of 1,023 feet (one-fifth of a mile) and the record-setting attempt occurred in concert with a restaurant’s 20th anniversary.
Verification of a new accolade takes about six weeks and is conducted out of Guinness’ home offices in London. Last August, PokerStars ran a similar tournament that boasted an $11 buy-in and offered a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool. In that event, 20,000 players turned out, which PokerStars claimed was the largest cash tournament ever held at the time. PokerStars member Lynna1 pocketed $20,000 for first place.
More than 100 people milled outside the Winkler County.
KERMIT, Texas -- More than 100 people milled outside the Winkler County Jail Wednesday night, shouting angrily at a murder suspect just captured by authorities.
Sheriff's deputies and city police formed lines around the jail to protect Michael Eugene Sharp, charged with capital murder and aggravated kidnapping in the stabbing deaths of a Kermit woman and her 8-year-old daughter.
'It appeared they had him tried and convicted and sentenced,' sheriff's Sgt. Mike Eggleston said today. 'But at the sheriff's office we're still going by the law that he's innocent until he's proven guilty. Of course we fully intend to prove his guilt. But we're not going as the crowd is going.'
Eggleston said officials were 'kind of worried about his security' and keeping Sharp in a cell by himself.
The sergeant said no one in the crowd attempted to harm Sharp and most were 'just spectators looking to see what's going on.'
No bond was set for Sharp, 28.
Winkler County Sheriff W.H. 'Bill' Sage and two deputies drove to Sweetwater, Texas, Wednesday to pick up Sharp, who was apprehended as he stepped from a Greyhound bus after a nationwide bulletin was issued.
Sharp was unarmed, had no identification and put up no resistance as police took him into custody, Lt. Jim Kelly of the Sweetwater Police Department said.
Sharp, an oilfield supervisor from Odessa, is charged with aggravated kidnapping and capital murder. A tattoo of a winged horse on his chest made identifying the suspect easier, Kelly said.
Selena Kay Elms, 14, who escaped the killer by running nude into the desert with her hands bound as her mother and 8-year-old sister were stabbed to death, had described the tattoo to authorities.
'We had received a teletype that he was possibly en route on a Greyhound bus that it was possibly going to stop in Sweetwater from Brownfield to Odessa and then eastbound to Louisiana,' Kelly said.
Sweetwater is about 170 miles northeast of Kermit in west Texas, and officials said Sharp had a ticket for Dallas.
Sharp was last seen about4 a.m. Friday, a few hours after Brenda Kay Broadway, 30, and her daughters, Christie Mechelle Elms, 8, and Selena Kay, were abducted.
The three were driven to a remote site and ordered to strip. The man tied their hands and stabbed the mother and girl, officers said.

Police say ax-wielding man was drunk when he attacked driver, pulled knife on relative at Texas Pizza Hut
12:13 PM on Dec 1, 2016 CST
A Wichita County man is accused of attacking a driver with an ax before pulling a knife on a relative, the Times Record News reports.
Geoffrey Spencer Hibbs, 21, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, driving while intoxicated and two counts of criminal mischief.
According to affidavits obtained by the Times Record News, Burkburnett police were sent to Kramer Road on Monday evening for a reckless driver, but were redirected to the Pizza Hut on that road for an assault related to the driver.
When officers arrived, they reported seeing four vehicles and numerous men screaming at each other. Witnesses told police they saw Hibbs smash the driver's window of a green Chevrolet pickup and hit the cab repeatedly with an ax.
Then, Hibbs charged at the driver with the ax, injuring the man's wrist, police records show. The driver was able to wrestle the ax away from Hibbs and toss it in the back of his truck so Hibbs couldn't reach it, police say.
After attacking the driver, Hibbs pulled a knife and charged at a relative, records show. While he caused no injury, he slashed his relative's front tire, the report says.
Hibbs was booked into the Wichita County Jail, with bail set at $51,750, according to the Times Record News.
Separation anxiety in pets is a real thing and recognizing the warning signs is important.
Since March, Covid-19 required most of the world to quarantine in their homes. Majority of people ended up working from home for nearly five months. This meant pet owners were constantly with their pets giving them attention, playing with them, letting them out etc. Therefore, when the world slowly started to open up again and pet owners began returning to normal life work schedules away from the home, pet owners noticed a difference in the way their pet acted. Many pets develop separation anxiety especially during this crazy time when majority people were stuck inside barely leaving the house.
Separation Anxiety in Pets Can Lead to:
Chewing, Digging and Destruction
What Causes Separation Anxiety:
A number of things can cause separation anxiety in pets. A clear reason right now is due to covid-19 requiring individuals to stay home for extended periods of time. Then these individuals were able to return to their daily lives leaving pets along for extended periods of time. Another reason is some adoptable dogs may have separation anxiety when first adopted because they fear their guardian may leave. Another cause is if a pet experiences a sudden change in its normal routine for example covid-19 it can in return cause separation anxiety in them. Be aware that also moving can cause separation anxiety so if your dog and you move around a lot it can trigger separation anxiety in your pet.
How to Maintain Separation Anxiety:
If your pet has a mild case of separation anxiety try turning when you leave into something exciting for your pet. This can mean offering them treats before you leave so they start to associate you leaving with getting a treat. It can also be helpful to leave them puzzle like toys like the brand KONG offers toys that you can put treats into or put food like peanut butter, or cheese in. This toy will distract your pet for a while, and they get a reward when they play with the toy. These toys try to offer only to your pet when you leave the house. This will train your pet to start to enjoy the time when you leave because they know they will be given a reward.
If you pet has a moderate case of separation anxiety it can take more time to get them accustomed to you leaving. This means taking the process of leaving them way slower. Start only leaving your pet for short periods at a time and continue to reward them. As they begin to get used to it increase the period of which you are gone. Over time your pet will start to recognize that it is oaky you are gone because they receive rewards. For dogs who have severe anxiety especially when they notice you put on shoes or grab your keys. For these pets try to associate these items with you not always leaving. Try to use these items but not leave to show your pet they are not to be feared of these items. If you have a pet who typically follows you around try to do things like telling your dog to sit and stay outside a bathroom door while you enter that room. Gradually increase the time you leave your pet on the other side of the door. This trains a pet that they can be by themselves and will be okay. This process will take a while so remain calm and patient with your pet. This process should start out in a room but should overtime get up to you being able to leave your house and go outside without your pet following. Continue to watch for signs of stress in your pet like pacing, trembling, panting etc. If any of these signs and others appear take a step back and move slower. During this overall process it is important you take it slowly so try to not really leave your pet at all which can be very difficult. Try to arrange if you do need to leave that someone like a friend can stop by and be with your pet or try using a doggy daycare service just so your pet is not totally alone.
Some Other Tips:
When greeting your pet after being gone say hello in a calm manner and then ignore them until they begin to remain calm. Same thing with saying goodbye remain calm and do not give into them being wild and crazy. To calm them try having them perform a task they know like sit or down. Another tip is to possible crate train your pet. If your pet associates their crate with being a safe place this can ease their anxiety when you do go to leave. It can also be helpful if you do not crate your pet to provide a safe room that your pet typically fees the most comfortable in. Another tip is to provide plenty of mental stimulation for your pet like treats and toys. Also try giving your dog some sort of exercise before you leave every day. Leaving hidden treats and food for your pet to find throughout the day will also keep them busy and entertained. If none of the above tips help, try seeking help from a professional in pet behaviors. They will be able to determine a regimen to help you and your pet get better. Medication may also be necessary for severe cases so to speak to a veterinarian about the different options for your pet.
Separation anxiety can be common in pets especially after the year everyone has had. Look for signs of separation anxiety in your pets and notice the different ways you can assist your pet in getting better. Also remember to never punish your pet for any anxious behaviors. Do your best to not discipline and instead use these tips to avoid future behaviors. Separation anxiety can be maintained with patience.
